Ahhh...at this time of year, thoughts turn to memories of warmer places...or plans to go back there as soon as possible...and good food....always food...lolol
To start the New Year off with some zip, and to keep up with my resolution to blog more often, I have a great recipe for a spicy Caribbean Shrimp which is pretty simple and really good....since when I talk about food I am always happy I am going to start writing more often about some of my favorite recipes...enjoy...:)
Spicy Caribbean Shrimp
Time: 20 minutes. Feeds 4 people. Ingredients:
1 lb 16-20 count shrimp, frozen, cleaned, uncooked
Basmati or Long grain wild rice (Note: Uncle Ben's boil in bag brown rice is also just fine and completely idiot proof - no need to measure the water and you can overcook it and no one knows or cares)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon curry
1/3 - 1/2 cup coconut milk. More if you want a creamier dish.
1-2 medium jalapeno pepper, diced
1-2 large bananas or plantains (Note: plantains are preferable because they don't break down as easily while cooking)
1 Mango
1/8 cup EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)
Optional: shredded coconut
Instructions:
1. Start rice so it is ready when you are done cooking.
2. Put shrimp in a bowl and run under cold water for 3-4 minutes. Pull tails off. Slice in half for smaller pieces if you wish.
3. Heat EVOO on medium heat. Toss in pepper and cook 2-3 minutes.
4. Toss in shrimp. Cook 2-3 minutes and flip all shrimp over.
5. Toss in fruit, spices and coconut milk and mix all ingredients together. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
6. Garnish with shredded coconut if you would like and serve over rice.
A pretty simple dish that's different and really tasty...Enjoy!

Just wanted to update everyone on Vision’s latest events. The cooking demo went great here on Tuesday. I’ve learned that flank steak isn’t the most tender cut of meat, even so it turned out great. Everyone was pleased with their meal, which is all that matters to me. If you missed out on the cooking demonstration, don’t worry! I will be cooking again on March 23.

As far as this weekend goes, who’s excited about our poker tournament this Saturday at 7:00pm? I know I am. First place could bring home as much as $1,700! Not bad for a days work. If you haven’t reserved your spot yet, do so now! We’ll have complimentary food and drinks available for our poker players; just don’t forget to bring your poker face.

In housing news, the $8,000 tax credit for first time home buyers is still underway! Get it while it’s hot! This is such a great deal; I wish they had come up with something like this when I was buying my home. And if you’re thinking “I’m not a first time home buyer”, than listen to this…you can receive $6,500 for your next home even if you’ve been a previous buyer before.

On Travel Shock, Moving at 1000 miles an hour and further Confessions of a Real Estate Addict and Hopeless Optimist

Greetings faithful blog followers;...Under the Confessions category, I confess it has been too long since I last wrote and just as I did last year, I am making resolutions to share thoughts and comments more often; especially since not participating in the social media phenomenon is similar to not having a cell phone or even a computer!

If you're reading this and haven't commented recently, how about some thoughts and ideas about the subjects below or another topic of interest?...it's nice to get feedback and will encourage me to write more often.

There have been many positive developments since we last spoke and I hope this post finds you and your family healthy, happy and employed...It's time to come out of the bomb shelters and dig up the coffee cans of money from the back yard - the overwhelming consensus is that general economic conditions are improving, signs nationwide are increasingly positive and we are decidedly on the road to recovery. In our region in NJ, we are actually about 18-24 months further ahead of many parts of the country on the road to recovery; they will be digesting excess real estate assets for a while. Las Vegas, Phoenix, Miami and parts of southern California are good examples of economics in much worse condition than the northeast region of the country.

What are your thoughts on mortgage availability at retail or wholesale levels? Anyone having issues with appraisers, mortgages or credit items in general? Please share your thoughts and comments.

It's 2010 and we're still here! We are the survivors!
Exciting things are happening at Visions At The Shore. The H building manor homes are sold out and we're taking deposits for the I building which is under construction. People will actually be living there this spring!
The townhomes have been reduced so much it hurts but 3 are still available starting at $299,900. Won't see these prices again for a long time I hope!
The clubhouse inspires me; I still get excited everytime I walk in and listen to the fountain!
Events are happening all the time; I've been cooking away in the Visions kitchen for our homeowners; you have got to come taste my chili at the Superbowl Party Sunday Feb 7! Who cares what teams are playing, we're here to have fun!

We're all Virgins in a Sense & the Myth of I am Here and You are Out There...

Greetings to all ...here's hoping this post finds everyone healthy and doing (reasonably) well...

It has been too long, and I am determined to make a dedicated effort to blog more often...promise...really...I have even enlisted several friends and team members to remind me that every blog need not be an immortal treatise like the Magna Carta or the Constitution, or heaven forbid, an endless journey like Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry...

Talking too much already and haven't even yet left the shadow of the first paragraph....ahhh well...more room for improvement in Vince's life...

Thanks to all (ok - most) of the Visions at the Shore homeowners for coming out to Happy Hour at the Clubhouse and sharing some great ideas and thoughts with us...activities and clubs, ideas for the clubhouse and Visions improvements, and some great conversation...it was really a nice time and great for everyone to finally meet some of their neighbors...looking forward to the big Summerfest Clambake next Sunday and the Community pool party on the 22nd of August...

Anyway, today's thought for the day is as follows (and I am paraphrasing)...."One of Mankind's single biggest illusions is the conception that I am Here and You are Out There"....so untrue and nevertheless, such a common thought.

In the global community we are all intertwined, and more closely related in more disparate ways, than ever before...we all rejoice, suffer, laugh, cry, exult, despair, worry, work, love, laugh, stress, grieve, try, fail, succeed, and get up once again to try again...when one stop's thinking that you are different in any meaningful way than anyone else taking up space on our happy little planet, one tends to be more patient, have more clarity and compassion, learn more from one's fellow man or woman...and avoid creating all types of nutty illusions of grandeur in one's own mind...lolol

Just forget all that and remember Google's motto..."Be Nice". Works just about everywhere, in most circumstances...;)

Enough introspection and analysis of deeper issues...on to other fun stuff...virginity and stuff like that.

How are we all virgins...? Simple - Computers! Who knows all the tricks there are to know? No one (but I have a really good one here, so stay with me folks...;)) We are all learning, whether we are 15 or 75...and discovering new things everyday...so ponder that thought when you are feeling smugly superior about the latest trick you learned...remember that you don't know what you don't know...!

Why are we reluctant to try new experiences and risk change - or try something for the first time (thus the allusion to virginity...;))? We are afraid that it will cost money, or cause embarassment because we might be wrong, or we are worried that the time needed to learn something new is too great....so we avoid change, and in a very direct sense, restrict any personal growth....

Time to toss that theory in the recycling bin... (or if you are like me and use the Cooperative Recycling Concept, the ordinary old garbage can...lol)....the only thing we are certain of is that there will always be change, and new things to experience...(like McDonald's serving cappuccino - what's that all about, anyway?)...which leads us to one of the points of this post....

Computer tip for the day: Folders, Folders! and FOLDERS in your email!! How important is this for anyone using email for work?? VITALLY IMPORTANT!.

If you are using MS Outlook, click New, then Folders, then create a new folder in your Inbox with a common category you use repeatedly. There are similar abilities in AOL and other email programs, though I am not as familiar with them. I have folders for all developments that Foxmoor is building (Foxmoor Galloway 88 lots), and subfolders in these for more specific categories (Finance, Construction, Engineering, Advertising). I also have a folder for any category of communication I regularly employ (Marian - Email, Web Stuff - Blog, etc).

Why should you use folders? Simple - to save yourself time. When you receive an email, if you don't immediately work on it, file it in it's happy digital home, so you will know where it is living, when you do get to it. When you send an email out to someone, if there is anything important in your response, COPY YOURSELF WITH THE EMAIL, AND SAVE IT IN THE CORRECT FOLDER so you can find it when you need it in the future, and not do the Email Daze thing, where you just zone out...searching...looking...

It is Truth I speak when I say this one simple idea may save you dozens (possibly hundreds) of hours, each year. Really, really (like Shrek says).
You will not be rooting through hundreds of emails looking for what you remember someone sent you, or how you responded.

An extra bonus is that your Inbox becomes a virtual server for all documents, spreadsheets and letters you send out to anyone - and if your computer goes down, all your files are on a remote server, ready for your use

Enough drivel for the moment...status of the real estate market is steadily improving... the Resort Clubhouse at Visions has been open for 3 months and is getting rave reviews...Foxmoor at Galloway just opened our newest development of 29 homes, next to our 88 lot development, which is almost sold out...great prices, great interest rates, and a lot of the short sale and resale inventory which has been on the market for a while has been sold...
It is truly a great time to get into the real estate market - interest rates have been this low 1 time in the last 60 years - since 1947 - and with the tax credit, many buyers are jumping in....:):)

A little humor from the Great Fox - Don't Feel Too Bad If You Have Forgotten Something Recently

Ok, for those of you who are still wondering if I have completely lost my sanity, I absolutely have.

Today, I forgot to put my sandals on and didn't discover I had my little furry ugg-looking house slippers on until I got out of the car in Galloway.

Truly I am not kidding. Now I look like an old smurf, with hat, scarf, dog and furry slippers...lol

It is shaping up to be a wonderful day already...;););)

So take solace, anyone reading this who may have forgotten something minor recently, like shoes, or sanity, or whatever...lolol

At least the weather is beautiful, and we have a homeowner moving into Visions at the Shore (Hi Miriam!!) as well as in Foxmoor at Galloway (Welcome Dan Gambert!)...another closing tomorrow in Galloway (Hello Mr. & Mrs. Howard - who came to our last Solutions 101 Seminar, and were able to buy a new home...;);)

Congratulations to everyone on the team who is going crazy making these closings happen...Thank you James, Jack, Mike, April, Colleen and Marian...without you I wouldn't retain what little sanity I still have...;);)

At least some people still remember to put their shoes (or sandals) on in the morning...lol

Economic Recovery, Birthing Elephants and 'tis a New Year

“Recovery is taking a bit longer than it should, kind of like Mating Elephants…”

There is a joke says something like, “What do economic recovery and mating elephants have in common? The answer is , “It is done at a very high level, it is accomplished with a lot of kicking and screaming and it takes 18 months for anything to happen…”

That thought is eerily similar to our economy (unfortunately)….however there is light at the end of the tunnel, and this time, I don’t think it’s the NJ Transit Express about to run us over again…J It has taken longer than it should, and a sincere thanks to our awful media for making everything continually seem much worse than it was….may the fleas of a thousand camels inhabit your inkpens, and keyboards and other orifices all over you…

I mean, you’re sitting there reading this happy nonsense, and you should be thinking about the fact that in the last month, the government (thank you Hank and Ben! God, I’ll miss Hank Paulson…a brief shining moment of intelligence and capability in the history of the treasury…of course our new president is getting rid of him…makes a lot of sense…;(L ) has added several trillion dollars into our monetary system. Directly and indirectly, commercial banks have been directed to “Go forth and Sow your seeds…JJ…they have, and rates have come down over a full percentage point in the last month.

What does that mean?? If you are considering buying a $300,000 house with a $270,000 mortgage, but were worried about your payment being too high, it just dropped $170 a month. If your buyer couldn’t afford your house at $210,000, with a $190,000 mortgage, because the payment was $115 a month too high, she can now buy your home with the payment they need, and you still get all your money. Ahhh, the magic of playing with the interest rate…helps everyone in the food chain…JJJ

Interest rate drops effectively placed a floor ( a line in the sand, so to speak) in asset values…absolutely artificially low rates (0% - .25% federal funds target rate) cannot last forever while asset values are so low. Either rates or values, or both will definitely move upwards. Most probably in this environment we will see asset values increase slightly more quickly than interest rates in the 6-12 month term, but certainly there will be upward movement in both over the 12-24 month period.

Whatever. The point is to go do something positive. The time is great for it.

People say I talk too damn much and go off on tangents and I am thinking they might be correct…

Boys and girls, one thing is for certain – this artificial largesse from Guv’mint (from all of us actually – we are funding the bailout, and the stimulus) will not last forever…it’s just too good for all of us down here in the real world…so don’t wait too much longer to do whatever you are thinking of doing.

More on this in a few paragraphs, but in the meantime, some holiday (remember those?) and New Year ramblings…

"tis a New Year, and May it be Healthy and Happy and Prosperous for all...let us all remember that health is the most priceless possession, and its free (or at least the price of a gym membership…lol).

Fond wishes that the Obstructionists and Dooms Mongers who slurk and slither among us, develop itchy rashes and flu symptoms that keep them inside, so the rest of us can look up at the sun and think about how things are actually getting better out there…J

May the Naysayers and Negativitists (I made that word up, by the way…lol) stop being part of the %$*!!$%# problem, and start being part of the %$*!!$%# solution. (Thank you Bruce Willis in Die Hard).

Fortune Magazine has been hosting an excellent writer on their inside back cover for a while and his name is Stanley Bing. Bing is an actual Fortune 500 executive (somewhere), and his bi-weekly page is funny, satirical very accurate and deals with whatever issues most folks are pondering in their cornflakes.

Whether presciently or not, his column of 10/27/08, may mark very close to the depth of consumer confidence, general misery and probably a bunch of stocks, real estate portfolios and dwindled bank accounts. It is entitled “What will happen Next?” and speaks first about the 4 Prophets of Doom – Fear, Anger and Gloom and Panic. It is so good, that I will excerpt and paraphrase a few thoughts from this excellent article for your perusal. You can read the rest online at www.fortune.com. The name of his column is While You Were Out.

“And the land was overrun by Prophets of Doom, the riders of four horses, whose names were Fear and Anger and Gloom and Panic….and these gloomy, mostly pudgy and balding prophets shouted from the rooftops, predicting the end of happiness and the dollar, the onset of starvation, the collapse of markets globally and the hegemony of China. Then you should get out of your chair and get your own elephants birthed….it’s been long enough and the screaming is dying down out there… low interest rates, great prices, and a government who is actually on the ball (albeit a bit late to the dance) and encouraging intelligent, responsible real estate investment…? These conditions can’t last much longer…probably until everyone realizes just how good they are.

You don’t have to wait any longer though. It’s the first day of the rest of your life…make it count.

No Payments until 2010, the Election and What's Happening in the World

Hello out there in BlogLand...;)

Weather generally crappy this week, but brightening Sunday for our Football Stadium Tailgate Party at Visions at the Shore...I know the change of seasons is supposed to be nice, but when it's dark at 5 pm, and you can feel the winter coming, I think how happy the people must be in San Diego, where it is 85 degrees all year.....just perfect except for the earthquake issue...;)

So true - if you don't write it down, it never happened, and you will probably forget it. Write your thoughts, ideas, plans, to-do items, and chores down on a list and cross them off as you finish them.

(FoxBuilder Confession: Since White-Out came out with the tape in the dispenser, I have become addicted to the neat, clean lines, instead of the harsh crossed off items on my lists. Neurotic to be sure, but I am comfortable with my neurosis, and they are mine after all...lol

On to matters near and dear to our hearts...the economy, and more particularly the real estate market.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT A FUNDAMENTALLY GOOD TIME IT IS TO BUY REAL ESTATE RIGHT NOW!!! Seems that our recent, diligent descent into communism hasn't been without it's murky benefits...believe it or not the commercial banks across the country have come to realize that if they want to keep borrowing money at the incredible rate of 1% from the Fed (incidentally, this rate is actually a negative real interest rate, since inflation is about 2% - a very odd, unsustainable situation) they're supposed to actually lend it back out to folks like you and I, and not just use it to make their balance sheets look pretty.

Perfectly simple reasoning for anyone working for a living but apparently difficult for the Big Brains to comprehend...but there have been definite signs recently that the retail credit markets are loosening up.

With interest rates as low as they have been since WWII, unemployment at 6.4% (historically near the low end of the scale - remember, folks, that means 93.6% of the people who want to be working are doing so), really low inflation (1.9% - remember the 13%, 14% 1970's anyone?), and incredibly low real asset values, Foxmoor is actively seeking property for acquisition and development, and retail homebuyers have been moving back into the market. I haven't seen values like this in a decade - as long as you keep the TV off, and don't listen to anyone telling you how the sky is falling, it is a buyer's market! Smart Buyers know that...

Anyway. in other news, Foxmoor Homes and Visions at the Shore are rolling out a No Payments until 2010! program across the entire Atlantic County area, over 5 different developments. If preliminary indications are telling, we have a real winner of a structure that helps people sell their old homes, and not worry about a mortgage payment until 2010. We're getting a great response and anticipate the first 7 available homes will be sold within the next several weeks!!

It turns out that the idea of adding $100 a month to your mortgage payment, and saving $18,000 - $20,000 over the next year, seems too much to pass up. We will see in the next few days.

Finally, we are having a Football Stadium Tailgate Party this Sunday with food, music, furnished models, and you are all invited...12:30 - 3 this Sunday in the Shoreview (Penthouse) model in the Atlantic City building. Greetings to my fellow travelers…:)

Spike’s doing fine today if you’re wondering and he will be attending our Fall Fiesta on Sunday from 12-3 at Visions in Absecon…Spike is the fattest Chihuahua in canine history…:)

Weather was typical fall today…blustery, sunny, rainy, windy…all in the same day…hello New Jersey…70 degrees to 38 in one day…:)

Thought for the day…”Even if our efforts of attention seem for years to be producing no result, one day a light that is in exact proportion to them will flood the soul…” Simone Weil…
or “Cast your bread upon the waters, and thou shalt (eventually) have sandwiches returned to you – maybe even the good kind, with the foccocia bread, olive oil, garlic, proscuitto and sharp provolone with roasted peppers…” I may be paraphrasing slightly…:):)

These two thoughts should encourage us to keep on keeping on towards our goals and dreams…and not listen to all the reasons others think they are impossible…

I always say, “It’s not a question of if we will persevere and win…it is a question of how long it will take, and how much we will suffer.”

For a moment of serious thought, consider the speech Prime Minister Winston Churchill gave at the Harrow School in England, in the darkest days of the Second World War. The most famous segment of his speech was as follows…

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

So it was then, and in the most difficult days throughout history, and so it is now.

It is easy to lie down and rest when you are so close to victory…truly, and unfortunately, it is the most common occurrence.

It is so tempting to be numbed by recent events…and forget that we need a larger house for a growing family, or a smaller house to downsize, or a new home with a basement and garage.

Oddly enough, it’s easy to forget that we are still in a strong Buyer’s market, and what you are supposed to do in a Buyer’s market…..is buy!

Sounds simple right? Along the way, we are swayed and influenced by so many negative influences…we have doubts about the economy, our jobs, inflation, interest rates, who is going to be our next President….and we forget about what’s really important - to never give in and never stop working toward your dreams…

Enough of that deep stuff. You either got the message by now…or are sick of it…lol.

Anyway, we had the second week of Foxmoor Football…great for team building and spending time with great people, but really, really unpleasant physically…:) I was trying quite hard to slide my way out of it (crush of work responsibilities and all that crap) and was reminded that I started this and it wouldn’t be too cool if I only lasted a week…at the end, I was quite happy today…down to 2 pulled muscles, a sore back and a strained pinky (no wine tastings for a while…;)) from the torn hamstring, 4 muscle pulls, and assorted scrapes and bruises from last week. All this so I can get in better shape and live longer…wow…I am thinking I like the shape I’m in right now...:):)

If ever one was in need of comic relief, one could find it at 4 on Tuesdays…sometimes we even last an hour…lol…Thanks Jimmy for guilting me into going today…Thanks Colleen for not showing up (not our fault you wore a skirt to work – you should’ve planned ahead…lol)

Is it Really Stealing?

Isn't that the truth? Remember - no one who loves you will care how much work you got done that day, when you are gone...let's get rid of some of the stupid activities in our lives that waste time for no reason and remember to enjoy the trip...play a little, just like our kids do...;);)

Cloudy, cold, windy, and generally unpleasant today...great day to venture out of one's warm, cozy home....and look for a brand new house! Yeah!

That might be a bit subjective coming from me, but it's still true...;)

Sitting here with my killer attack Chihuaha Spike, pondering some of the deep mysteries of modern life (Spike is pondering when he will get a handout, a walk, or a nap)...and so I shall attempt to shed light on one of them... "Is it really stealing when you take scrap lumber from in front of a home under construction? "

Having been in this business for a decade and a half, I have some thoughts I would like to share with my faithful readers... (currently numbering in the low single digits...lol)

Please note - when the pieces of wood are 3'-4' long, and piled in the front of the driveway neatly in a box, you can be reasonably certain that is scrap, and not only should you take it for your craft projects, but you are saving the environment, since it doesn't have to be discarded and sit in a landfill....:)

However....14' and 16' pieces of 2"x10", engineered trusses and structural paralams are definitely not scrap and are part of the house...lololol...

I mean really folks - does anyone not know that? Having spent a number of years being robbed, I realize most people are well intentioned and won't take what they shouldn't....however, there are always a few bad apples in the bushel... ;)

It's like you leave the house to go to work in the morning, and someone removed the wheel from your car (not just the tire - the whole wheeel)...Sure, you'll get to work eventually, but it is a bit of a pain...:):) So hard building the 2nd floor without the structural support lumber...

Not feeling too inspired this morning, and am hoping for greater words of wisdom later in the day...I may venture out to look at the ocean...or I may stay in and do a press release for our Fall Fiesta next Sunday at Visions (we are having a tarot card/fortune teller lady do readings and donating the proceeds to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission)...or work on the loads of email crap I need to catch up on....

Who else hates email sometimes? Feels like the Sword of Domacles...hanging by a thread over your head...uhhhhhh

I may also do none of these things and read a book...

More later (maybe - but who would notice? Like the tree falling in the forest thing...lolol)

Too Sensitive to Negativity - Part 2

Oh when I figure Blogger out I am going to be scary...lolol...tried so hard to edit my last post, but gave up and just made this one a continuation of the last...

Continuing on, there is a fine line between negative and realistic...too much "realism" (read: pessimism) can put a damper on anything...really, does anyone think Columbus' peer group thought he was rowing with all oars in the water when he left to sail off the side of the earth?

Yes - sign me up for not wanting to hear things presented badly !! Yes - Tell me good news! Think of the positive side of something first before dumping it on me! Why do otherwise anyway? How much fun is it being negative? Zero.

Optimists and Pessimists have been scientifically proven to be correct equal amounts of time (I may be exaggerating about the scientific part) but Optimists have loads more fun, seem to smile more and have better digestion...lol

Google health as it relates to happiness and find loads and loads of stuff about laughter and a positive attitude being far and away the best medicine for most anything...

Some nice avocado and tomato salad, black olives, spinach and crumbled feta with balsamic vinegar helps a lot too when you're feeling down...lolol

So let's start thinking about the bright, positive side of anything that we are about to spit out into the world...if everyone did that once a day, we might not be in the apathetic morass where we currently find ourselves economically...

Remember - it's not a problem if you can fix it with money.

A Slight Delay in Posting and Are We Too Sensitive to Negativity?

So it's been about a year and a half since my last post, which isn't really too bad...same decade, right?

After some conversation with several well meaning friends, I am going to take their advice and stop trying to compose War and Peace every time I blog...lolol...I've been telling people for years to lighten up and stop taking yourself so seriously, and maybe I should listen...

I am going for the short, direct, concise, humorous, sarcastic, educating...blog....right, sure...5 out of 6 isn't bad...;)

Further, all of my team members will be adding to this blog, whether they know it yet or not...there will be views from the field that are very entertaining, in a dark kind of way...kind of like watching footage of the war someplace...

Hope all my faithful readers (in the high single digits, I bet) are doing well, and surviving, in our (still) challenging market...Foxmoor is still building and selling homes all over Atlantic County, and we are really moving at Visions at the Shore in Absecon...welcome to our new homeowners Lois, Jocelyn, Billie, Ellie, Morris, Lew and Lee...!

Today we are sheetrocking our clubhouse over at Visions...it is amazing...11,800 square feet, indoor pools, fountains, really beautiful...currently we are only about $500,000 over budget and a year behind, but diamonds take time to cook, and the Sistine Chapel took Michelangelo 13 years or so...4 years on his back, so I can't really complain...we are in the home stretch now anyway...

Every time I get cranky, moody, worried or morose, they drag me outside and make me sit in front of a fountain and I calm down...;)

So are we all (me specifically) too sensitive to Negativity, or that excuse-for-an-explanation-of- negativity, Realism?

Familiar things and letting go…

Tonight I rolled over on my glasses and the one lens squirted out like a watermelon seed at a 4th of July barbecue. I had stolen a modest nap on the couch and upon my arrival back into the world, this is the little bit of happiness which I wrought upon myself.

Off to the junk drawer to find an eyeglass screwdriver kit I trundle. Suitably geared up, I sit down in front of the kitchen table, which is often used for a desk, and attempt to change the screw, reinsert the lens, and cease slamming into walls, coffee tables and large people who are sleeping. (I might be exaggerating, but not by much. I can’t see too well without my glasses. )

40 minutes later I am realizing that my sense of economy may just be stretched a bit. As I become more and more frustrated, I wonder, as I often do in these circumstances, just how long I am to struggle before conceding gracefully (an oxymoron if there ever was one) and purchasing a new pair of glasses?

The reason I do not have glasses circa – anywhere-newer-than-1998 really comes down to this Associate (and I use this term very loosely) at the Wal-Mart eyeglass shop in the front of the store.

After taking a brief, distasteful look at my frames several years ago (frames I was very happy with and wanted simply to replace), he advised me that the last time these frames had been sold to a customer was just after Moses came down from the Mountain with the Commandments, and they were not available any longer. No, he could not fix them. (for one thing, his arms were the size of my body, and I could definitely miss a few meals without anyone worrying) and he didn’t know anyone who could.
Thanks a bunch, Slim. Placing my ancient, decrepit frames back upon my nose, I slithered away, thinking about what a butthead he was…:):).

Anyway, I think it is time. None of the 15 tiny little screws worked and I finally threaded a garbage bag twist tie through the frame and secured the lens…I only have 4 appointments tomorrow, 2 with bankers…but at least I stripped off the white plastic on the twisty tie…:):)

My primary car is a similar situation…there are the odd dozen or hundred people who firmly believe that I should be in a slightly more recent vintage automobile…my thoughts are that I would rather not drive a frou-frou car around on construction sites where everyone is looking at you and thinking not-nice thoughts. With my car, often someone will start passing around an empty spackle bucket for a change collection for me…(that’s always nice…lol)…other nice things are that no one will ever steal it, and policemen often look on me with a compassionate eye…:)

On to matters of substance instead of chatter (for the thousands who read this epistle regularly) …Foxmoor has had six – 6 !!!! closings this week!! Great job by Jimmie, who runs the Galloway operations and April, who works in Galloway and Egg Harbor. Super job pulling everything together…!!

This weekend we have a big event at both our Foxmoor at Galloway location on Jimmie Leeds road and our Visions at the Shore development on Pitney Road in Absecon…This weekend, we will have a custom motorcycle display, a radio station broadcasting, and plenty of food and drink. It’s always a lot of fun, and I am convinced that people come and buy houses just to get the excellent sandwiches and those fluffy little cream puffs from Acme…

It may just be that Michelle Morris and the Century-21 Glencove Realty team do a great job. Or maybe because we build an excellent home. Or any number of other reasons.

But I think it’s the cream puffs that push people over the edge…:):):)

Perspective and reflection…

Interesting, isn’t it? In my humble opinion, if you have an issue that can be fixed with money, it truly isn’t a problem, right?

This does relate, so hang in there….through the circuitous, labyrinthine workings of my brain, there is an analogy coming eventually, so if you need a pee break or a glass of wine, go get it. I’ll wait.

Back? Good.

So, after I sat here trying to configure my wireless print server for the third time (I have about an hour in each time) I broke down and called customer support.

A very lovely female child in New Delhi answered after 28 minutes on hold (we should all buy Cisco, who bought LinkSys, who bought etc, you get the idea – since 14% of the 6 billion people on the planet were calling in on a Monday evening for tech-support…)

All of the other people calling in were much smarter than me, or female, or both. Women, in my experience, pick up the damn phone and call tech support and yell at them when things don’t work. Men generally continue plowing ahead until they are in the wrong country. They don’t invest so much time, only to be told by Sahib Patel that the wireless print server I was struggling to connect, was not compatible with a printer/fax/copier, but only a plain printer.

Thanks Linksys. Ever think of putting that info anywhere where it can be found???

Anyway, thanks to the dear friend (who shall remain anonymous so all gloating shall not be heard by the world) who advised me to get over losing my last significant blog post in the ether and compose in Word, save and post. Duh, right.

I am so ridiculously paranoid about saving that I don’t get 10 words done without saving. Alt-F-S. I do it unconsciously, I am so worried about losing data…Anyway, I am over my snit (due to my own ineptitude) and will continue to spew out pleasant nonsense for my nonexistent, or certainly miniscule, audience…

Back to perspective…like my Grampa used to say, ”Better to be looking down at the grass, than up at it…”. Good point.

I talked to Karl the other day and told him the same thing. He told me all the things we could be doing better at Foxmoor. I asked him if one could ever be too rich, too thin, too smart, have too many good clients, or for that matter have too much of that great vodka he bought me for my birthday last year?

Of course we could be doing better, as is usually the case in civilization since the time of Cro-Magnon man. We continually get better in many ways – better quality construction, better building management systems, better information.

How about we start telling the people we care about all around us, how well they are doing the things they are doing well…(and maybe suggest nicely the things that can be improved) instead of just bringing up what is not perfect? The glass is half full and there is no earthly reason to sit around and think otherwise – and those around you benefiting from your kind words will work that much harder to make things better with a bit of encouragement.

It’s easier with sugar than with vinegar. Words from Mom.

Anyway, some kudos to the team….Thanks to Bill and Shari for signing a new contract each since last Thursday…!!!! Great job and great job training your people Michelle from Glen Cove Realty. No one else I know other than the national builders trains so hard and regularly.

Thanks to Jimmie who runs our Foxmoor Estates at Galloway developments, along with April, who works with him. Jimmie was able to navigate the bizarre corridors of reality in Galloway Township and procure a CO for a closing this Wednesday…Yeahh!!!!

Good job today April on another walk-thru with less than 5 items (we aim for 0 defects, and I think we had 3 minor items today).

Thanks to Ray for setting up the Absecon construction office and keeping Karl and John connected to the digital universe...and being a successful new member of our team. Welcome, Ray. I'm glad you made it and didn't pout or complain when all the women from the sales team ganged up on you and beat you up in the beginning...lolol

Foxmoor had a closing today in Egg Harbor, and another is scheduled for midweek. Also, last Friday, we closed on the purchase of 16 single-family lots in Buena, which is western Atlantic county for those who have no clue where it is…

Now I’m going to walk my killer attack Chihuaha, Spike, and then go to bed. I’ve had enough fun for one day…

Another Blog Annoyance

Well, I just typed for a half hour, and essentially composed the Illiad, and just lost the entire thing. I am quite disgusted right now.

It was actually a really good post too.

If I could figure out how to edit my posts, I would save them, but I haven't yet...what an idiot. So aggravated right now.

Just figured out how to edit...maybe I will retype all that drivel I wrote before, but probably not...:(:( an annoying end to a really good day...

Another Day in the Life...

Did your day count today? An interesting thought, and I wonder how many people ever ponder that point...if you were to pass from this veil of tears, would anyone notice and have you spent your every moment in the way you would wish??

Serious enough? Ok, everyone, step back from the ledge...just thinking that in one sense, it should all count, every moment, and in another sense, very little matters except your every waking moment, the specialness of it and precious times with loved ones...

If you read those little books they have at the register at Waldenbooks, B.Dalton and Atlantic Books, you become in-fucking-scrutable, like a tri-state, frustrated Confucious....you lose a lot of friends, because no one has a clue what you're talking about, but at least you can hear the sound of one hand clapping...lolol

There. I said "fuck" in the blog. Hopefully that will not irrevecably mar the Company Image....

Forgive me, I was digressing...

Anyway, today we started plumbing in the slab of the clubhouse at Visions at the Shore in Absecon. I got the call from Karl at about 7:45 this morning with the good news. I didn't really believe him at first...

"Hello".

"Hello".

"Well I have some good news. There's plumbing going in the clubhouse at Visions."

Silence.

"No, I mean it."

"Karl, you're lying. Is it our job, or a KHov job? They build things on time, we're generally a bit tardy."

"Vince, we are late - about 6 months, so I am thinking it's our job. Don't be a smartass, this is great news."

Thump. Crash. Phone dropping.

So Karl started getting annoyed with me. "Cut it out. It's going well. You have a bad attititude lately...blah, blah, blah..."

It is good news and he is right. I am a hopelessly optomistic, jaded cynic...

Wait 'till you see that clubhouse...it'll be amazing....

Wish I Was There...

Hello All...

So, I am writing once again, for the second time this evening, stymied by the vagaries of Google/Blogger/ whatever amorphous construct it currently is, since I am unable to edit my draft postings, for some obtuse reason.

Odd for a Google product, (or associate, or acquisition, or computer submissive, or whatever) which at last check had 94.33% of all the brilliant people in the free world, and owned 57.98% of North and South America, with various countries throughout southern Europe and southeast Asia...

But you can't edit your X%$#%*!* blog, without a small Act of Congress...oh well...go ahead and try it...I was middlin' smart until today when I tried to pick up where I left off...from now on, pure, straight prose....lololol

Anyway, for the noteworthy (if I may presume) thought of the day, we have the Wish I Was There thing...(we all do that at times) the grass is always greener, etc...

Earlier, I was listening to someone in our organization today who was going on vacation for the second time in a month, and I was irrationally jealous. Didn't she realize how much I would love to be on vacation?? lol...unfair of her to make us suffer...

It was Lauderdale, and not New Zealand, but still...of course, she's a 20 year old college student and why shouldn't she go ?

Still, I wished I was her for a while (ok, I am still having the occasional errant longing)...I could get on a plane, like anyone else, but am consumed right now by any number of mundane, nonsensical, recurring/random issues (like everyone else living in civilization), and would find it a mite dificile to exeunt stage left at this moment...lolol...still it is a nice thought....

After further thought, I am enjoying the wonderful spring NJ weather...so maybe sometimes what we think we want, we may already have....:):)

(I am almost certain, someone smarter than I has said that before)

Truly, nothing of monumental import have I shared with you this eve, but Rome wasn't built in a day, and I am still getting the hang of this talking to myself on my computer...so hang in there and the content may improve...lolol...but it may not...

Life should always be somewhat humorous, because when you stop laughing, they may as well stick a fork in you, 'cause you are done....lolol

On to more ramblings...

We had our weekly sales meeting today, as well as our construction meeting.

It's been a few hours now, and I am over the social shock of the meeting, and can speak of it without shaking...lol...I am kidding, of course...

I really like everyone, and they tolerate me, but everyone looks pained in meetings....haven't you noticed? Like they just sat in a wet spot on patio furniture...it's just an uncomfortable feeling...:):)

Since it is important to be serious and studious, it is my choice to throw paper airplanes and groan loudly at times. Everyone treats me like an adolescent, which is often appropriate, but if I didn't behave like that, I would jump off a bridge (In southern jersey, that really means nothing. The highest elevation is about 10' above sea level. At most you're talking about a broken leg or something minor- not worth the drama, or the dry cleaning bill.)

Author's note: After fighting the whole meeting thing for a while, I have come to the reluctant, forced, coerced conclusion, that a regular, focused, purposeful, concise meeting can be a positive event, and not on par with a proctological exam. According to Karl, I should not always act as if I am secretly 9 years old, and lately I have been trying...lololol

Back to the meeting. We discussed many things , but primarily the regulatory environment in which we are currently building, which is markedly similar to Alice in Wonderland. (anyone needing the reference can email me).

In real life it should take about 60 days to build a house completely from the ground up.
In NJ, it takes 4-5 months, is excruciating for everyone involved, and adds about $40,000 to the cost of each home (tragic but true...note: this includes regulatory delays at the state and county levels. Approval time in NJ averages 3 years.)

After griping and bitching for a while , we finished and adjourned.

Sounds pretty classy, but there were no more sandwiches, and only 2 of those really little Heinekens, and everyone is on some kind of stupid diet, and wouldn't eat the cheesecake in front of anyone else, so we all left.

Me home to blog (ok I snuck back in and had a piece of cheesecake), and everyone else back to their respective lives.

(Can I have comments about cursing? I find my expressive style to be quite hampered by politeness and courtesy...and I am wondering if anyone really gives a damn, or is it like a tree falling in the forest...??? lolol)

Greetings to all of the miniscule audience probably reading my first entry into BlogWorld! Hope you are all well.

Generally, I will try and start my posts with an uplifting, encouraging or stimulating thought, to uplift, encourage and stimulate anyone reading...:)

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single step".
I think they said that just before the Long March in China many years ago, and I know I say it whenever I have to walk further than 100 feet or so...

Nevertheless, for all of us who are attempting a seemingly impossible task, let's remember to get out there and try each day to move forward...sometimes the person who just shows up, wins the game...

Feeling uplifted? Me neither, but its early yet...

Today was a Monday, and one very good thing about them (Mondays) is that they do finally end after a while. Other than normal beginning of the week strife, it was truly a wonderful day, weatherwise, and to top it off, we closed on a house today and moved another happy family into a Foxmoor home in Egg Harbor Township. Congratulations to our 2 site supers in Galloway and Egg Harbor (Jimmie and April) for delivering a defect free home with no items on the walk thru list!!!

At Foxland, we are looking forward to a fairly busy week, with 2 more house closings scheduled, and a closing on a round of bank financing for 16 lots we own in Buena Borough, on which we have started building. That development will be the first major subdivision in Buena Borough since the parting of the Red Seas, or at least in the last 20 years, or since they started writing stuff down in Buena...the town is eager to have us and we can't wait to get moving.

Since I have very little imagination for some things, most of our developments are called Foxmoor at "Somewhere"...(Foxmoor at Buena, Foxmoor at Hamilton, etc.). Not the most innovative nomenclature, but it has become habit over the years.

Our Marketing team made the decision today to publish and promote our Free Elevator incentive at Visions at the Shore, in Absecon. For the first 10 townhome buyers, we are including an elevator (which I think goes 3 stops, all the way to the basement). I have a feeling this will be a tremendous incentive, since no one else in this market is offering such a neat promo, and it has to be soooooooo cool to say to your guests, " Let's take the elevator, shall we?" lololol....Not that I know anyone who says "Shall we?", but maybe if I had my own elevator, I could practice....lol

Michelle is our marketing and sales (fearless) leader from Century 21, Glen Cove. When she first started with us, we called her TDW, short for Tall Demanding Woman. Usually any good marketing ideas come from her, get chewed on and commented on by me, contemplated and pontificated on by Karl, and once we have gotten used to the idea enough to claim it for our own, put into practice.
I am thinking after doing this dance for the last 6 months, that it would be a lot less work for me to just try her ideas first, then just comment on the ones that don't work...lol...One small communication issue may stem from the fact that she is about 8 inches taller than I am, and it is hard for me to hear anything spoken at that height off the ground, so I do miss a bit, and Karl is deaf in one ear... She and her team do an excellent job selling our homes (when we let them) and no, they are not all tall and demanding. lolol

I am thinking we should name the elevator campaign, "Come Ride with Us" or something catchy like that. (Usually my naming ideas get voted down - see paragraph above).

Currently, I am a bit young for Visions since it is an active adult community. I am very jealous that people 55+ get to live in beautiful, planned communities, with incredible clubhouses, and anyone younger is penalized and has to trek out in the elements, to an annoying health club....doesn't seem fair, does it?

Myself, I feel like a quick sprint to the car in the morning should be enough exercise for at least the morning....and I do occasionally walk our homes and neighborhoods, although not like I used to....too busy blogging, I guess...:)
